(Note that a portable version has already been discussed here, although for different reasons.)
As TrueCrypt is currently portable, a portable CipherShed should be non-difficult to create and would be ideal for:
- Use from USB drives for machines that don't have internet to download CipherShed
- Machines that are locked down to prevent software installs
- Fewer traces written to the host machine that a security program was running
Non-admin rights
Not requiring administrator access for the necessary drive mounting components may be harder. FreeOTFE, a program similar to TrueCrypt, offered this functionality in the form of a separate program with fewer features (essentially copy from and to the encrypted volume).
