Portable / non-admin rights version

Heated discussions about long term goals please. Pretty much everything goes.

Portable / non-admin rights version

(Note that a portable version has already been discussed here, although for different reasons.)

As TrueCrypt is currently portable, a portable CipherShed should be non-difficult to create and would be ideal for:

  • Use from USB drives for machines that don't have internet to download CipherShed
  • Machines that are locked down to prevent software installs
  • Fewer traces written to the host machine that a security program was running

Non-admin rights

Not requiring administrator access for the necessary drive mounting components may be harder. FreeOTFE, a program similar to TrueCrypt, offered this functionality in the form of a separate program with fewer features (essentially copy from and to the encrypted volume).

I like the idea of this. Maybe something along the lines of either a single executable, or very small portable installation that could go on a computer and do nothing other than mount and unmount volumes. Mainly so that very little file space is used on the computer, and be easily transfered from computer to computer if needbe.

Like in my college, we get 1GB of space on the network, and carrying round a USb drive with all my work on it (along with some other, slightly more evil, files), on an easily accessable drive isnt idea
