Website & CipherShed publicity

So far we have a wiki and a forum up and running. The wiki is good for looking for information and documentations on the project, the forum is good for discussion. None of them is good for a first public presence.

As another goal for the first release I would suggest that we have a nice, clean frontpage at ciphershed.org with the forum and wiki being either at (wiki/forum).ciphershed.org or ad ciphershed.org/(forum/wiki). I believe that that appearance will be a major factor how much the common audience is able to trust the project, and how seriously we will be taken as an end-user product and not a geek-tool.

I could create a simple suggestion around the end of next week and host it somewhere else, so we can discuss it.

What I think it should contain:

- these links (not too many!) : home, download, wiki, forum
- home containing recent updates on the development / release process (maybe short blogposts?) and a screenshot of the software (people love those).

Of course this list is a) most likely not finished yet and b) things may be shifted around (e.g. maybe create a doc page with simple install instructions and screenshots?)

What do you think?

Agree completely.
What .ch did was very clever, beautiful and proactive, but using the TC name and images as much as thet did is a grey area.
What about a really cool jump page that is image-mapped?
Whatever you do will depend on the artwork and name a lot.

Yes. I would want to keep it very simple and clear though. I thought that the truecrypt.ch page was already a little overdone, but that may be just me.

Yes, please keep it very simple and minimalist.

What provision will there be to enable bug reporting of the first release ? Of course, I am not suggesting there will be any, but just in case :)

An official progress blog would be fantastic. The main problem with the TC site and forum was there was little communication between the devs and the public. Often many months and latterly years went past with no one knowing if anything was being worked on. It would be very beneficial to the public’s confidence if we could monitor a progress page, like a blog with date stamps perhaps. This feature would allow the public to see that the project is still alive and fully active.

A first design: [link gone]

right now the discussion is red hot whether to use WP or html via git or something else, so we can have multiple people edit. On the ML.

I am a little late to the discussion here - but I can certainly help with getting acknowledgement across the web. I have experience in SEO techniques. Just throwing it out there!
