A clean merge with the .ch guys would be much better than competing projects with similar-but-not-quite-identical goals.

So do we think. Still we cannot trade security ideals for the opportunity to merge. They come first. For the moment it seems not very possbile, especially since they avoided most conversation with us. But we will keep working towards that for sure.

I am gradually getting concerned about their skills & commitment, but by-&-large, they do seem to be well-meaning, and mostly aiming for the same kind of project goals as ciphershed.

They do seem well-meaning. However not really aming for the same kind of project goals, except for "keep TrueCrypt alive". All they are writing sounds more like they want to attrack a big fanbase (with promises of new features on a regular basis, equal to a promise of lower taxes if you ask me). Barely anything seems to be based on security decisions so far.

If you have any suggestions or questions to this, feel free to post here.

Complying with TC's license, in particular III. Modification, Derivation, and Inclusion in Other Products will require changes.

Regarding OS X progress: over the weekend I got a working binary that currently stays faithful to TC 7.1a. Next weekend I am thinking of starting with the installer to get the OS X version in a releasable state (sans the rebranding). After that I want to look into using a newer FUSE version as I only got it working with the FUSE that ships with 7.1a, not the latest osxfuse.

First object may be to release an alpha just using old Trucrypt minus the things the Trucrypt programmers want us not to include. I think these are just basically 'Trucrypt' words in the program.

Plain old anser is: when it's ready. Currently there is an alpha-download available, which is obviously not supposed to be used in production, but only for testing. Why do we have no more rigid release schedule? Because we do not see the point of releasing a full CipherShed release before it is better than TrueCrypt 7.1a. So currently, many problems from TC7.1a are being fixed.

I hope that was answer enough for you ;)

I have been "haunting" this forum waiting to see some actual information regarding the first release of CipherShed. So far, there is a plethora of technical information posted, between developers that are the only individuals that can understand the "language" of the development.
How about posting some information for the 90% of us that will actually be using your software? I would like to see something a little more friendly as a projected release date.
I have previously posted similar inquiries to this forum and they have gone unanswered. I am not a developer but am concerned about the security of my system, and information, that you claim your software will provide. Would much appreciate a "layman's" projected release date.

I'm sorry to say that there is no such "projected release date", other than "when it is better than TrueCrypt 7.1a, and fixed its most urgent problems". Until then, we recommend you keep using TrueCrypt 7.1a, and don't experiment with other shady products, especially proprietary ones.
